Surgical Pneumoperitoneum

Abstract
A clinical study about the surgical pneumoperitoneum due to various gastrointestinal lesions and its comparative significance, has been presented. This study was done at the Surgical Department of Chonnam University Hospital from May 1960 to April 1966.
One hundred and sixty four cases (70.8%) of 233 cases were checked for intraperitoneal free gas radiologically, and 97 cases (59.1%) of 164 cases gave positive resuls.
In perforation of the stomach and doudenum, mostly due to peptic ulceration, 76 cases(80.8%) of 94 cases showed positive intraperitoneal free gas.
Thirty fours per cent (12 cases of 35 cases) of the small intestinal performation, excluding typhoid entity, were positive of free gas shadow, and showed the least incidence.
When patients were checked in 7 hours-24 hours interval after the onset of the lesions, radiologically positive gs shadow were seen in 78.4% (40 cases of 51 cases). But, before and after this peak interval, this positive incidence declined significantly.
